The students and staffs of T.A Learning Centre ended Term two on a high note by organising an evening open day to parents and the general public the work done by the school on the topic Global changes/ Climate and Water Resources.

The school term theme was a build up from the World Water Day celebration facilitated by the Mamanuca Environment Society and it mainly focused on engaging in thematic approach towards environment sustainability.

Water conservation, its importance to livelihood and how to manage this resource are the main objectives of the thematic approach.

Different classes studied different water sources and how well to protect water resources available. Safe water is important for our health, farms and our daily activities.

According to the School Headmaster, Mr Taito ‘the school is trying to raise awareness on water and how fortunate we are to have safe waters.

Mr Taito added’ that its only through human activities such as poor farming practises, cutting down of trees, dumping of liquid and solid waste into water sources that result in poor water quality.

The students with the assistance of their teachers spent time every week in preparing for the term end event. Students conducted research and collected information that they could use for their display.

According to a Class Three student, Moape Bolakoro said ‘I learnt new things such as the water cycle, different water sources such as rainwater, well water and that we should not waste water but save water by turning off taps after use’.

He added that he liked the activities organised by the school. Student spent time in school making posters, water cycle models, painting, and drawing and wrote poems and essays addressing water conservation and their importance to our communities.

Mr Taito said ‘the whole term thematic approach was a success and a very effective tool in raising awareness. He added that the students are keen in learning more about the environment and how well to manage it and they are in the process of putting together environment theme for Term three.

“We should all work together in trying to protect water resources and sustainably manage it for our future generation” said Mr Taito.
