The second week of August marked yet another successful term for the environment school program facilitated by the Mamanuca Environment Society with its six mainland schools; Viseisei Primary School, Nabila Public School, Ratu Nemani Memorial School, Vuda District School, Tau Primary School and TA Learning Center. The school program was set up with the objective of integrating the theories and knowledge of the environment with regards to conservative action and sustainable living amongst our children at the core by including it into their weekly curriculum.
At the end of the program participants have covered a total of 13 chapters covering areas of Ridge to Reef conservation, marine animal interactions, coral reefs, waste and water management and climate change. Participants from these six schools are then assessed on the ten chapters that they have covered. At the end of the assessment, participants are requested to fill an evaluation form, which the society will use to measure the strengths and weaknesses of the program and also provide feedbacks on areas that need improvement. The students were then presented with certificates of completion, which becomes useful reference, when students want to further their studies in marine or environment related fields.
MES is confident that by targeting the grass roots levels, these students have been inspired to become future environment advocates and become great stewards for the sustainable management of their natural resources. MES would like to sincerely thank all our member resorts, cooperate sponsors for your continued support, sincere thanks also to private businesses in Nadi that have made donations in kind, towards the school programs world marked events. Vinaka Vakalevu!
The MES team now looks forward to preparing for yet another challenging school term and also looks forward to visiting these schools again in 2016.
