Four resorts in the Mamanucas; Castaway Island Resort, Mana Island Resort, Likuliku Lagoon Resort, and Malolo Island Resort celebrated World Environment Day and World Ocean Day with guests and staff. World Environment Day and World Ocean Day is marked globally every 5th and 8th June respectively.
LikuLiku Lagoon resort marked World Environment Day on 5th June. Represented by 4 guests and 7 staff, they carried out a beach clean up on Likuliku beach and planted 20 trees. On June 8th Likuliku marked World Ocean Day carrying out an underwater clean-up and crown of thorns removal, collecting 20 crown of thorns and removing them from the reef.
On June 8th Malolo Island Resort marked World Environment Day and World Ocean Day. Kolinio Vulaono MES Technical Officer facilitated the program in Malolo. The day’s celebration began with a power point presentation by Mr Vulaono on the significance of these two world marked events. The presentation was followed by speeches and poetry recitals by the kids club. This was followed by an underwater clean-up along with crown of thorns removal (COTS), where two COTS were removed, returning from the underwater clean up the guests then took part in a coral planting activity, planting 22 corals. After lunch, a beach clean up was carried out, followed by a mangrove walk and mangrove planting. The 15 kids and 4 adults that participated planted 67 mangroves. The celebration at Malolo culminated with the guest presentation in the evening and presentation of certificates.
Castaway Island Resort marked both events on the 11th of June. The program began with a guided snorkel on Castaways house reef, during the guided snorkel the participants also conducted an underwater clean up. This was followed by a herbal medicine walk; trash line game and beach clean up. The day’s program ended with the guest presentation in the evening. 1 adult and 3 kids took part in program.
