On the 12 of May, MES working closely with South Sea Cruises organized a clean up campaign at Monuriki Island in the upper Mamanuca region. The island is uninhabited and is home to the Fijian Crested Iguana and Fijian Petrel (Kacau). The island is visited by tourists on daily bases that come to enjoy the white sandy beaches, beautiful coral reefs and natural surroundings.

The volunteer group included MES staff, ANZ staff, local communities and rugby players representing Tonga, Samoa and Fiji in the ANZ Pacific Cup competition. This was made possible through our major sponsors ANZ banking Group. Upon arrival, the group was divided into two groups and was briefed on the activities to be undertaken for the day.

It was an enjoyable day with the group also learning a thing or two about each others cultures and exchanging knowledge of the importance of protecting our environment and managing our natural resources. At the end of the program ANZ donated a rugby ball that was autographed by the players who were present at the cleanup, to the local communities to show appreciation for their support and contribution during the day.
