After the clean up from Solevu Village, the team had a lovely lunch at the resort. Pizza was the order of the day and we all had different tastes of the wonderful Castaway Island made pizzas. After a short break, participants who were interested in the organised activity assembled in front of the dive shop for a short briefing by MES Project Manager Soropepeli Seru.

After the short briefing all participants including the team and few staff went into the water and starting from the South Beach, the clean up was conducted. Bottles, clothes, plastics and even cardboards were collected form the sea floor and were brought to shore. These apprehended items poses huge threats to the marine ecosystem and as the main objective of the activity, they were disposed ashore to create a safer environment for marine life.

It was interesting to observe how the participants took part in contributing to the activity taking their time out from enjoying their stay to help clean up and save the Castaway Island sea environment. All trash collected underwater were loaded to a kayak. The underwater clean up ended on the north beach. As a form of appreciation for guests in participating, MES staff took their names down and awarded them with Certificates of Participation, something they can remember for the rest of their lives.

The day ended at Castaway, and it was a long day of hard work for the betterment of our surroundings. The team headed back to mainland on the last boat and all were exhausted. But, thanks for the good heart and hard work, the day long clean up campaign was successful.
