Despite living in Nawaka Village, South Sea Island which is just 30 minutes from Port Denarau was a mystery for Salome Adikula Rabuka until Tuesday May 22.

The 29 year old mother of two was the second winner of the Mamanuca Environment Society mother’s day promotion.

The reward was a full day relaxation at the small yet exotic South Sea Island, surrounded by crystal clear waters and magnificent coral reefs.

“My husband entered the promotion during the mother’s day week. After 20 minutes we received a text from Bula FM that we’d won. I was overjoyed.”

The journey, she said started at Port Denarau where she received her ticket and a warm congratulation by the South Sea Cruises staff.

“I just couldn’t believe it when I step ashore onto the sandy beach. The welcome from the staff was great. For a moment, I felt like a tourist.

“Then came the island activities. The hardest part is choosing what to do first. The food was delicious.”

Mrs Rabula who was accompanied by her aunty Kesaia Vai said the highlight of the trip was a ride in the island’s semi-submersible vessel to explore the coral reefs and see the magnificent tropical fish life in the surrounding Marine Sanctuary.

The image, she said was breathtaking as it was the closest she has ever get to live corals.

“A very big ‘vinaka vakalevu’ to the Mamanuca Environment Society, FBC and South Sea Cruises,” Mrs Rabuka adds.

Mamanuca Environment Society Project Manager Betani Salusalu said the mothers day promotion has been ongoing for the past four years and will only get bigger and better.
