MES has begun with its first phase of Resorts site inspection for the year 2014.

Environment compliance inspection of a premise identifies potential or existing environment degrading contaminants and/or practices.

The compliance inspection conducted is carried out with the objective of:

  1. Identifying solid and liquid waste management practices by the resort.
  2. Systematically assessing the level of compliance with environmental regulations and statutory conditions.
  3. Recommendation and implementation of corrective actions.
  4. Follow up.

During site inspection, each department are inspected and a report is compiled once the inspection is completed. The Inspection report serves as background information for the biannual Mamanuca Environment Society resort members’ sea water analysis.

Mamanuca Environment SocietySite inspections for the resorts started on the 3rd to the 21st of March.

Project Manager, Marica Vakacola briefed the team on the importance of conducting this task as it contributes directly to the overall report that determines the status of the resort environment. MES staff were distributed to various member resorts on the course of three weeks.

This survey will also determine if the resort has improved from the last inspection. This is done by comparing the results of the two consecutive surveys. A positive move is seen when the resort improves the standard from the last check and vice versa if it does not.

The inspection done on Mana Island Resort and Spa was quiet challenging as it was a big resort which covers a sparse area of land. Going from one side of the island to the other could have not been much easier on foot but thankfully the management provided a cart to assist with transiting from one area to another.

Likewise for Castaway, Malolo, South Sea Island and Tavarua Island Resorts, the inspection went through smoothly and thanks to the hardworking MES staff who were designated to these fields that they were able to cover every tasks on time.

Gratitude also goes out to the hardworking resort individuals who accompanied MES staffs on the field.

The second site inspection for the year is proposed later for the month of September.
