Earth Day Celebration 2010

On April 22, MES celebrated Earth Day with the local schools and resorts in the Mamanuca region. This year’s celebration was the biggest one for the Mamanucas as we focused more attention in the Green Generation Campaign and also adaptive measures in tackling climate change. Resorts staff and guest took part in beach and underwater clean up competition and planting of trees at their respective sites. MES assisted Malolo District School and Mana SDA School drew up a half day program. Students participated in quiz competition and clean up on their beachfront and around the school compound. The students were well briefed on the reasons behind the celebration and the need to increase awareness of recycling and building a better energy efficient community based on the theme “Commit! Allow Clean Energy Future.” Students showed lots of enthusiasm as they are keen to clean up their school as well as their village. This indicates that students are fully aware for the importance of protecting their environment.

MES would like to thank those company for their kind sponsorship and donation make the day more meaningful and a memorable one. Special thanks goes out to ANZ Banking Group for sponsoring the quiz prizes, Mega Paper Power for sponsoring MES with garbage bags and Coco-Cola Fiji Ltd for donating P.E.T bottle waste bags for the schools and also for local communities in the region.
