A Satellite Tag for the Mamanucas

Finally, the waiting that seemed like an eternity slowly evaporating the hopes of the Society and other Organisations working for the protection and longevity of turtles paid off. On March 2nd 2008, a Hawksbill nester was tagged at Treasure Island Resort and released into the ocean. The nester which was later named Adi Mamanuca was found laying eggs on South Sea Island (Vunavadra Island in Fijian) and transferred to Treasure Island Resort’s turtle pond to await its satellite tag to arrive all the way from Samoa.

It was a memorable experience for everyone who played a role in tagging Adi Mamanuca. We anticipate with unwavering hope that she will bring back promising results which will greatly enhance our understanding of their movements.
