Turtle Conservation Project

WED 2010 International Year for Biodiversity

MES celebrated Environment week with Namamanuca Primary School (NPS) and Vuda District School (VDS) on the 3rd of June. With Fiji’s theme ‘Stop Pollution Save Our Plants and Animals,’ we took to planting trees in and around the school compound. NPS planted coconuts and coastal plants while VDS planted 30 native plants.

It was a very good day and all the seedlings were planted in good areas with students being allocated seedlings to nurture (watering, weeding etc). The students had an enjoyable and very educational time. We would like to thank the department of forestry for supplying the seedlings to be planted and to ANZ for supplying us with t-shirts for the students.

Fact of the Day

Populations of commercially attractive large fish, such as tuna, cod, swordfish and marlin have declined by as much as 90 per cent in the past century.
