Outrigger Group funds Eco Club in the Mamanucas.

The newly established Mamanuca Schools Eco Club closed its first chapter at the end of the third school term on a high note. The Eco Clubs in the Mamanuca will be anticipating 2016 having received generous funding from the Outrigger group of hotels.

The Mamanuca Environment Society established Eco Clubs in the three island schools of Malolo, Mana and Yanuya in late September of this year, and within the third term had implemented waste management projects within these three schools including two kindergartens, one on the island of Tavua and the other on Yaro village, on Malolo Levu. The establishment of the Eco Clubs proved challenging with no prior funding, but the small team at MES were quite determined to raise the platform of environmental education from direct delivery to hands on learning.

At the mid term, MES received monetary donation from MSPEC, which enabled the society to continue with the Eco Club activities until the end of the term. While the Eco Club members looked forward to their school holidays, the team at MES still had to secure funding if the program was to continue in 2016. Santa surely graced us well before Christmas, as Outrigger pledged to fund and become sponsors of the Eco Clubs.

MES would like to sincerely thank Bitsy Kelley and Outrigger Group for their generous funding and support towards environmental education and empowering local community students to become great environment stewards.

Vinaka vakalevu Outrigger!
